WATCH SITE PARKING - NASHVILLE HUSKERS

This past weekend several people asked me about parking downtown. So, I've put together a map for you showing where I typically parke when I head downtown. I head for the parking garage under the Public Square/Metro Courthouse, it is only $3 on Saturdays and is about a 4 block walk to The Attic at Piranhas and Piranha's Bar and Grill.

There are places to park that are closer, but are typically more expensive too. If you want to see an interactive parking map of downtown you can visit http://wwwparkitdowntown.com/maps

Remember we are still raffling off $10 parking reimbursements week. If you want to get the chance to win $10 make sure to get your blue raffel ticket to be entered into the half time drawing.

BTN 101 for Husker Fans and Nebraska Residents

Q: Who can get BTN?
A: BTN is available in up to 80 million homes nationwide on all major video providers, including cable and satellite. BTN is also widely available in Canada. The network has distribution agreements with DirecTV, DISH Network, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse,
Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast Xfinity, Cox Communications, Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, RCN, WOW!, Rogers Cable, Shaw and Shaw Direct (Canada) and about 300 additional video providers across North America.

Q: Is BTN available in all 50 states?
A: Yes, BTN is available throughout the U.S. and Canada. Fans who live outside the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean can also watch BTN football and men’s basketball telecasts live and other Big Ten television partner telecasts on-demand through www.BigTenTicket.com, an international streaming subscription service.

Q: How do I know what my BTN channel is?
A: BTN’s GameFinder feature (www.BigTenNetwork.com/GameFinder) allows you to input your zip code, identify your provider and learn your BTN channel.

Q: Which game will I get when BTN is televising two games at once?
A: You will get the game most relevant for your area. The majority of our cable, satellite and
telecommunication affiliates in the nine Big Ten States carry our “Extra Football Game Channels,” while many outside the Big Ten region are continuing to make these channels available. The decision whether to carry “Extra Football Game Channels” is made by your cable company’s local office, so we recommend that you check with your provider. Satellite (DIRECTV and DISH Network) and telecommunication providers (Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse) offer all BTN games on “Extra Football Game Channels,” whether the network is airing one or three games at the same time. Our GameFinder feature is updated weekly during the football season so you can determine if your local system offers these channels and if so, where to find them in your channel lineup. If you do not get these channels, you can call your local cable office to let them know you are interested. Click to read more about Extra Football Game Channels.

Q: Can I watch BTN on my computer, my phone or my tablet?
A: BTN now offers BTN2Go, a live, 24/7 multi-platform extension of BTN that gives fans, through their cable, satellite or telco provider, the ability to watch the network live wherever they are via the internet, smartphone or tablet. Your provider must agree to carry BTN and BTN2Go in order for you to receive it. As of August 20, DIRECTV, DISH Network, Time Warner Cable and Charter will begin offering BTN2Go to its subscribers this fall. This service is launching on Sept. 1 at BTN2GO.COM, and via the iPad and iPhone several weeks later. An android version will be available early in 2012. Click to read our FAQ on www.BTN2Go.com.

Q: Which networks will televise Nebraska football games?
A: The Big Ten Conference has media agreements with BTN, ABC and the various ESPN networks. To access the BTN schedule, go to www.bigtennetwork.com/schedule. Additional game times can be found at Huskers.com.

Q: Do I still have to order some Nebraska games on a pay-per-view basis?
A: There is no longer a need for pay-per-view games, now that all home Nebraska games will receive national television exposure on BTN, ABC or the various ESPN networks.

Q: How are games selected to air on the various networks?
A: The Big Ten Conference’s media partners select most non-conference and primetime games in late spring. Remaining contests are selected by the networks either six or 12 days before the scheduled game.

Q: Which specific Nebraska football games will be on BTN this year?
A: Currently, the UT-Chattanooga game on Sept. 3 and Fresno State on Sept. 10 will be on BTN. Nebraska will also have at least one to be determined Big Ten Conference game on the network that will be selected either six or 12 days before the scheduled game.

Q: I live in ________, what is my BTN channel?
A: Go to www.bigtennetwork.com/gamefinder, type in your zip code and identify your cable or satellite provider to learn your BTN channel.

Q: I’ve heard about something called “Extra Football Game Channels.” What are they?
A: Click to read more about Extra Football Game Channels.

Q: I live outside Nebraska. What if my cable company doesn’t carry more than one BTN channel?
A: In order to satisfy fans of all schools, the network offers all of its games to affiliates for them to place on “Extra Football Game Channels” on football Saturdays. With the additional scheduling flexibility BTN has this year, we will have fewer games on at the same time. However, if your cable company does not carry these extra channels, you may want to let them know of your interest in their doing so. Extra Football Game Channels are also available on BTN2Go.

Q: My on-screen channel guide says there are 3 BTN channels. Will there be programming on all those channels?
A: What you are seeing is your provider’s identifying its Extra Football Game Channels, which can only be used by BTN on football Saturdays.

Q: Do you re-air Nebraska football games during the week?
A: Yes, we will re-air Nebraska games. To view the BTN schedule, go to www.bigtennetwork.com/schedule.

Q: Are you going to show Nebraska volleyball, soccer, wrestling, etc.?
A: Yes, Nebraska will be well-represented in the network’s coverage of Olympic sports, including women’s volleyball and soccer this fall.

Q: What if my cable company doesn’t carry BTN?
A: BTN is available to approximately 80 million homes across the United States and Canada, and has carriage agreements with more than 300 cable operators, both large and small, both inside and outside of the Big Ten states. We have not been able to agree on business terms with every single cable operator but we continue to work to make BTN available to every home. All of the deals we have completed demonstrate that the terms are fair and reasonable, and if you haven’t already done so, you may want to consider communicating with your cable company to let them know that there is a desire for BTN programming in your area. You can also enter your zip code in GameFinder (www.bigtennetwork.com/gamefinder) to see if there are other providers in your area that carry BTN.

Q: Are all Nebraska football games nationally televised?
A: The existence of BTN ensures that every Big Ten HOME football game will be televised to a national audience. Additionally, every HOME Big Ten men’s basketball game is either televised or streamed live to a national audience.

Q: If a game is on BTN, will it also be on ESPN or ABC?
A: When a game is airing live on BTN, ABC or the ESPN family of networks, that network has the exclusive rights to that content.

Q: If a game airs on ESPN or ABC, will it ever be replayed on BTN?
A: Yes, BTN can air replays of games that originally aired on another Big Ten television partner network. For information on these games, go to the BTN schedule page at www.bigtennetwork.com/schedule

Q: If Nebraska is playing UT-Chattanooga at 2:30pm CT on BTN and Illinois is playing Arkansas State on BTN at the same time, which game will I get?
A: If there is more than one game airing simultaneously on a football Saturday, you should go to www.bigtennetwork.com/gamefinder at mid-week to learn the BTN channel for the Nebraska game. If there is no other game airing at the same time, your game will be on the main BTN channel on your cable or satellite system.

Q: What kind of Big Ten football coverage does BTN provide other than the games?
A: On football Saturdays, BTN kicks off its coverage with a pregame show beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET, and offers halftime and post-game coverage in addition to The Final Drive, which begins after all games have ended. During the week, BTN offers coverage of the football season Monday through Friday, with a new show each evening beginning at 7 PM ET. Mondays, it’s Big Ten Breakdown and the Pulse; Tuesdays, The Next Level; Wednesdays, Big Ten Football & Beyond; Thursdays, BTN Live and Step Into My Office; and Fridays, The Pulse and Big Ten Football report.

Q: Can I purchase a DVD of Nebraska games?
A: We are currently unable to fill requests for DVDs of individual programs. Our video licensing partner, Thought Equity, offers some of our programming through its website.

Q: If I live overseas, how can I watch Nebraska games?
A: For Nebraska fans living overseas, BTN offers “Big Ten Ticket,” which is an international streaming subscription service that includes every BTN football and men’s basketball telecast to viewers outside of the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. This year, for the first time, Big Ten Ticket will also include next day, on-demand access to all Big Ten games, including all Big Ten Conference television partners.

For more information, go to www.bigtenticket.com.

We have a NEW Watch Site

We had a bit of a setback this week when our original watch site, the Red Rooster backed out of their commitment to host the Nashville Huskers during football season. It was almost like when Nebraska was hit with 16 penalties during the Texas A&M game last year, but just like that experience, we realized we were put in an unfair situation, mustered up that Go Big Red spirit and moved on. We'll all stick together in all kinds of weather!

We are the Husker Nation and we are used to migrating. We'll even travel to the Independence Bowl just to watch our Cornhuskers play, so we knew as long as we found a place, the Nashville Huskers would follow. It only took us 36 hours to find a new location to host the Big Red.

Join us every game day at:

Piranha's Bar & Grill
113 2nd Ave North
Nashville, TN 37201

This downtown location provides two floors with a smoke free second level and is open to all ages. The menu offers traditional pub fare and the bar promises bucket specials for Husker fans.

We are working on providing parking options, so stay tuned for updates.

Be there Saturday, September 3 at 2:30 p.m. to watch Nebraska's home opener against UT Chattanooga.

Go Big Red!

IOWA, NEBRASKA INTRODUCE “THE HEROES GAME”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, July 29, 2011
IOWA, NEBRASKA INTRODUCE “THE HEROES GAME”
Annual football game to honor two “American Heroes” annually

CHICAGO – Some play for axes, little brown jugs and even a milk can. Others engage in “battles” and “holy wars.” Still more play for cups of a myriad of shapes and sizes and names.

On the last Friday of November in Lincoln, Neb., the football teams from the University of Iowa and the University of Nebraska will square off in the first of what is expected to be a long and competitive and entertaining rivalry between one of the Big Ten Conference’s original member institutions and the league’s most recent addition.

And, while the goal is the same as other “trophy games” – win the struggle on the gridiron and claim the trophy -- the Hawkeyes and Cornhuskers won’t use their annual meeting to determine ownership of football bragging rights for the Corn Belt exclusively. Instead, they will use the national stage that will be Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium or Iowa’s historic Kinnick Stadium each autumn to honor citizens of their respective states who are, according to Webster’s Dictionary, “admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities,” and they intend to work with a partner to do a good deed of their own.

Representatives of the two institutions unveiled their plan for “The Heroes Game” Friday morning, hours before the Big Ten Conference celebrated the start of its 116th season of football -- the first which includes the Cornhuskers as a member institution of the nation’s oldest and grandest intercollegiate athletics conference.
The institutions plan to honor one citizen of Iowa and one citizen of Nebraska prior to each Heroes Game for their extraordinary act. These heroes will be nominated by friends, neighbors or co-workers and will be guests of the two teams at the game where they will be honored on-field during game day. Each will also have their name and hometown etched on the to-be-created Heroes Game trophy.

“We believe that the people of Iowa and the people of Nebraska are very much alike in many ways. Both believe in an honest day’s work, the importance of community and family, and both love college football and their football heroes. We also know there are citizens of our states doing exceptional things every day and we think they are deserving of some recognition and we look forward to using this game to do that,” said Tom

Osborne, director of athletics at the University of Nebraska.

The first “Heroes Game” is still months away. It will be played the day after Thanksgiving – Friday, Nov. 25. However, that event is already larger than life for the fans of the two teams. UI and NU officials are counting on that interest to drive another piece of “The Heroes Game” puzzle: The opportunity to use the “Heroes Game” to raise funds for a non-profit organization in each state. The beneficiary of the efforts initiated in support of the first two “Heroes Games” will be the Iowa and Nebraska chapters of the American Red Cross.

“There’s little doubt that the football game between Iowa and Nebraska will have the full attention of our fans and fans across the country. In fact, in our state it’s been a topic of significant discussion for our fans since the official announcement of the expansion of the Big Ten last year. So, to have the opportunity to work with our friends at Hy-Vee and a new friends at Nebraska to channel that energy into support for something as deserving as the American Red Cross efforts is exciting,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics, who also noted the prominent role the American Red Cross is playing as the states of Iowa and Nebraska deal with the flooding caused by the swollen Missouri River.

As the title sponsor of the “Heroes Game,” the institutions will look to the leadership of Hy-Vee, one of the nation’s top 20 supermarket chains and top 50 private companies in the United States, to spearhead the fund-raising efforts that will be staged annually and to take a lead role in creating activities that bring the event to life across the two states.

And, Hy-Vee is uniquely positioned to help the UI and NU achieve their goals. The company boasts annual sales of more than $7 billion and 233 locations throughout the Midwest, including more than 160 locations in Iowa and Nebraska. It also has a wealth of sports marketing experience with a resume that includes partnerships with NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and MLB’s Kansas City Royals, in addition to the staging of the annual Hy-Vee Triathalon.

“With the ‘Hy-Vee Heroes’ game, we have a truly unique opportunity to not only provide support for two legendary football programs but also an event we believe will from year one a ‘classic’ post-Thanksgiving rivalry game. We also have the opportunity to use this annual event to recognize some incredible people, doing incredible good in Iowa and Nebraska,” said Randy Edeker, president of Hy-Vee, who noted that Hy-Vee employees are excited about partnering with the American Red Cross and providing support for all the great work they do.

The Heroes Game is the 14th “trophy game” in the history of the Big Ten Conference.

The institutions will work with their multi-media partners – Hawkeye Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports, and Husker IMG Sports Marketing – to expand support of the event and of the non-profit organization that will benefit annually from the efforts of everyone involved.

AIM Awards

Hey Husker Fans!

So, the AIM (Achievement In Marketing) Awards were last week and here is the award the Nashville Huskers won!

Here is what the brochure had to say about us:

Catagory: Special Event, Event Marketing - Event Under $100,000 Investment
Nashville Huskers
Team Lead: Emily Fay

Emily Fay loves football - and in particular, the Nebraska Huskers. Although he University of Nebraska has one of the winningest college football programs in history, she quickly learned that didn't matter in the middle of SEC territory. So Emily set out to create a community of local Husker fans who would gather to enjoy some football. The only problem was she had no budget, no support for the University, no place to meet and she didn't know any other Nashville Nebraskans. But Emily convinced a bar to turn off the SEC game and turn on the Nebraska game. At the end of the 2010 football season, the Nashville Huskers boasted a community of 361 members. Average attendance at the viewing parties was 102.

I am so blessed to be able to watch football with each and everyone of you every fall. You all are amazing!

Thank you for being so awesome!

GO BIG RED!

HELP

I am looking for a new location for our Nashville Huskers to meet... and am not finding much! If anyone has any ideas let me know!

Here is what we are looking for!

Background of the Nashville Huskers:
This group was formed in September of 2009. Our fist watch party was for the Nebraska vs. VA Tech, we were expecting 20 people to show up and had over 80 people come to watch the game. Attendance grew as word got out. The Alumni Association did not assist in the development of this group in 2009. However, we started working with the Alumni Association in 2010 and anticipate further assistance in promoting this watch site location for the 2011 season.

The Ideal watch site location will have/be:
- Centrally Located
- Sufficient parking
- Sufficient number of TV’s
- Sufficient space for 50-100 people
- Food
- Family Friendly (There are families with young kids)
- Smoke Free

What a watch site location can expect from Nashville Huskers:
- On average Nashville has 100 people show up each week. However, there will be some weeks that there are closer to 150 -200 people and other weeks were there are closer to 25 people. The biggest factor is the game time.
- As soon as I hear about game times and TV stations I will let the location know.
- We will promote the location on Message Boards, Websites, and in E-mails.
- The location will be the Official home of the Nashville Huskers and THE place to watch Husker Football in Nashville.

What Nashvillians for Nebraska would like from a watch site location:
- For the Nebraska game to be shown with sound every week.
- For the Nebraska games to have priority over other games that are on at the same time. (Example: Say Tennessee and Nebraska play at the same time. The Nebraska game will be on the big screen and will be shown with sound.)
- If for some reason the Nebraska game would not be able to be shown the location needs to give 5 days advanced notice, so other arrangements can be made.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANYTHING THAT MIGHT WORK, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

E

We've got a blog!

Hey Nashville Huskers!

We have our very own blog...Keep tuned in for info about upcoming events.
